Protection of Drinking Water
For many householders Springtime is ‘’clean up time’’. Householders start undertaking jobs around the house and in the garden. Sometime this involves spraying for weeds and the use of pesticides. The use of pesticides and any careless storage or handling can very easily cause breaches of the legal limit for drinking water. A single drop of herbicide can breach the drinking water limit in a small stream for 30 km ! Think of a drop of pesticide in an Olympic sized swimming pool and the contamination of precious water by pesticides can occur very easily. Your local Council is promoting the protection of drinking water from pesticides in the Lough Rinn and Forbes catchment Area by asking you to consider carefully the use of pesticides at all. Consider them as a last resort. Remember the Pesticide Awareness Support Biodiversity hhttps;//pollinators.ie/. for more information on what you can do to protect our drinking water please visit www.leitrimcoco.ie or contact Environment Department of Leitrim County Council @ 071 96 20005 or email environment@leitrimcoco.ie
