Back to the Future through memories and songs.
In April/May 2020 when we were starting to suffer withdrawal symptoms from lack of Human contact and the day to day chats and interactions that were part of normal life Fionnuala Maxwell introduced some cocooning citizens from the Annaduff /Drumsna area to the world of zoom. They told stories of growing up in Rural Ireland and the changes that they have witnessed from the nineteen thirties, reminisced, laughed and sang their way through lockdown. More specifically they focused on tales of schooldays ,Religious occasions, fair days and patterns, the Meathall and the join, cures, and superstitions, dance halls, cinemas ,the arrival of radio ,television and of course the songs and how they connected us are part of our rich heritage. Fionnuala created a zoom compilation film of those moments that were shared over six weeks, interspersed with photographs and songs from the past. There is so much for the wider community which to enjoy, learn and identify with in this film which will premiere on Saturday August the 15th for Heritage week at 8pm on you tube. You can access the film is called ‘’Back to the future through memories and songs’’ by searching for Fionnuala Maxwell Traditional singer on you tube and posting the following link on your browser. This might be the perfect opportunity for those of you who are a little more Tech savvy to spend an hour or more with someone who isn’t or doesn’t have access to a device- bridging the digital divide and learning from the past. https://youtu.be/zaPCoWf iDo

Nature on our doorstep.
Drumsna Tidy towns Association hosted a very successful walk and talk at the harbour on Saturday last as part of Heritage week. The River Shannon and the Nature surrounding it shapes our heritage in Drumsna and there was great learning about critters that live in and out of the water, about our local birds, flora and fauna. The event was held in the gentle Summer sunshine and we thank Michael Bell and his daughter Mollie of ‘’Nature Learn’’ and Karen Kennedy of Waterways Ireland for their contribution to this event. We also thank everyone who gave of their time to make the day so successful.
