The Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise are holding an assembly of the 41 Parishes in May of 2020 to consider how best the Parishes can move forward. We want to hear the experience and views of the people on the ground, whether you attend Church or not. We would like to hear what life is like for you and whether there is anything that you would change, hope for or expect from the Church.   This Assembly is taking place at the instigation of Bishop Francis Duffy. You as a Parishioner are asked to give your view on what you think should or should not be done. Young and old are invited to write down their thoughts and hand them in to Father Wall or any Assembly/ Parish Council member. Questionaire at the Church door. As these have to be handed at the end of October we would be grateful for a response to the questionnaire. There is a basket at the Altar where you can place your answered Questionaires.

Halloween takes place on Thursday next October 31st. The custom of children trick or treating is continued here in Drumsna each year and as Thursday is the Bingo night in the village at 8.30 and volume of traffic is more then usual ,it is suggested that parents have the  little children  inside by then for their safety. The customs of today have changed so much since I was a child many moons ago. We as children here in the village gathered excitedly in one house ( mostly Mc Manus’s on Quay Street) where the late Minnie Mc Manus would have the basin of water on a chair where we would duck for pennies holding our breaths and diving in head first. Minnie never minded a wet floor, next with our hands tied behind our back we tried to take a bite out of the apple hanging from a crook in the ceiling. I never could manage that one. Then the most serious business of being blindfold and having to pick one of four saucers , if you picked the Rosary beads then you were for the religious life, The water meant you were going across the sea, the ring meant you would definitely get married while the one nobody wanted to pick was the ashes ,as that meant that you would be the first to die. That one  really bothered me ! We then converged out on to the street where it was pitch black as street lights had not arrived yet . we knocked on every door before we came back to Mc Manus’s for delicious apple cake. We never got any treat at the doors except a telling off or maybe a bucket of water thrown at us, but we were so happy and innocent that we could hardly wait for the next Halloween.
