There will no Mass in Drumsna on Friday evening August 5th

9.30 am. Mass on Sunday August 7th celebrated by Bishop Francis Duffy, Reader Fema Flanagan, Ministers Patricia O’ Reilly, Katherine Mc Kiver.

Times for the Saturday evening Mass and the Sunday Mass in St.Mary’s Annaduff have been changed for the months of July and August with Sat evening at 8pm and Sunday at 12 noon.

Social Dancing

There will be Social dancing   in  Duignan’s Lounge  Drumsna on Friday August 5th     with music by Sean Brennan and in Fitzpatrick’s Mohill on Sunday August 7th with music by Michael Moran.

Bingo.

There will be   Bingo in Drumsna Community Centre on Thursday August 4th  at  9pm. Last week’s winners included  Martina Tully, Marie Casserly, Gerry Rynn, Raffle  Emmet O’ Rourke, Peter ReynoldsGeraldine Bohan . Free books Catherine Murray, Marian Rose Casserly.

Annaduff Family Day.

As part of the Annaduff Family day on Sunday August 7th we are planning a display of photography and memorabilia of life in the Parish over the past 100 years.  If you have any relevant items which you could lend the Club, ( items will be lovingly cared for and then returned ) please contact Declan Shanley.

Drumsna Heritage Weekend

Friday 5th August

6.30 p Official welcome for the Heritage Boats at the Quay.

7.00 pm Walking the Trollope Trail – A guided walk which brings to life the route

mentioned in Anthony Trollope’s book.

7.00 pm A Treasure Hunt around the village for the less active and the children.

10.00 pm Entertainment in the local Bars.

Saturday 6th August

Lunchtime Historical Lectures starting at 11am in the Community Resource Centre on Quay Street, no registration is necessary. 1st Lecture on ‘’The Doon of Drumsna’’ by Mary Butler, 2nd lecture at 12 noon , ‘’Doon to Diesel’’ by Alf Monaghan, 3rd lecture at 1pm with speaker from the Heritage Boats Association on commercial Navigation on the River Shannon.

Following this there will be a guided tour of the Heritage Boats at the Harbour in Drumsna.

Quay Street will be hosting a Street Festival, starting at Noon and carrying on until 8pm.Amongst other things there will be Arts and Crafts for sale as well as exhibitions of Butter Making, Boxty Making and other Traditional Crafts, various food stalls.

There will be Fun and Games for all the family. Anyone dressed in period costume will automatically be judged in a competition for the best outfit worn by a Man, a Woman and a Child.  Just to give you some ideas, you might be the Lord or Lady of the Manor or you could be the local Farmer or  Tradesman or Woman.  The children could be dressed as the young Master of the big house or the local Street Urchin.

At various times during the afternoon a group of local renegades will be re-enacting events from history (though some might be from their imaginations), watch out they could appear from anywhere!!

Live music on the Street with the Looney Hoppers from 6pm to 8pm

The main Raffle will be drawn around 8.15pm

D.D.A. Fundraiser Draw.

Drumsna Development Association are holding a massive fundraiser Draw over Heritage weekend. !st prize is a 2night B and B .in the luxurious Lough Rynn Castle Hotel, Mohill .2nd prize is B and B for 2 in O’ Loughlins Hotel, Portlaoiose, 3rd prize dinner for 2 in the Courtyard Resturant ,Carrick. Tickets are now on sale in local shops and pubs or from any committee member. Tickets 2 Euro each or 3 for 5 Euro.Your support would be greatly appreciated. Thanks is extended to the 3 businesses for their sponsorship.

Leitrim Sub Aqua 10th Annual Snorkel/Swim.

The Annual snorkel/swim for all ages takes place on  Saturday 27th of August. The day commences at 12 noon with registration until 2pm at the harbour in Drumsna. Sponsorship cards are available if you would like to help make some money for the club/play scool /D.D.A. and can be got from Gerry Gilroy at086 8588328, Bernice at 086 1646473 or Duignans shop at 087 6367825. We are also on Facebook. The Blessing of swimmers takes place at 2pm. All then transfer to Jamestown where the Swim/ Snorkel begins at 2.30pm. with members of Leitrim sub Aqua club, boat patrolling and taking care of safety measures. There will be a Bar-B-Q at the quay side in Drumsna where you can stave off the hunger pangs and enjoy applauding the swimmers as they arrive.The entertainment continues on down to Main Street where at 6pm there will be a Fun Sean Nos dancing competition for children from U 6 to U 12 with medals and  certificates. Registration for that is at 5.30pm.at the street corner. Immediately after the Dancing there  will be a duck race , from the Flaggy bottoms up to the bridge. Be sure to get a duck which will cost you 5Euro  but could win you 200 Euro if your duck comes in first or 100 Euro if your duck comes in second. Everyone is invited to dress up in clothes of the olden days, there will be a prize  for the best dressed and a booby prize for the worst dressed !There will be ongoing music all evening ending with a Bazaar for great prizes at 10pm. The proceeds this year are shared with the Leitrim Sub Aqua Club, Jamestown Pre- school and Drumsna Development Association  .Everyone is welcome.

Mini Break.

Annaduff /Drumsna/ Jamestown Defib .

The Annaduff, Drumsna, Jamestown Defibrillator Group are holding  their Annual Church Gate Collection on Sat/Sun 6th/7t August. Your support for this vital service in the area is vital and would be appreciated .Defibrillator training continues from  September  on, If you are interested please call 086 2639759.

Winners.

Congratulations to Aoibhlinn and Alishe Maxwell,  Derrywillow,  on winning medals and cups in the singing competition at the O Carolan Harp Festival in Keadue last week . The girls are daughters of well known Leitrim Ballad singer and musician  Fionnuala O’ Reilly –Maxwell and Sean Maxwell,   both girls  are also proficient Sean Nos dancers. Well done to all.
