Great Barset Balloonathon.
The Victorian Author Anthony Trollope wrote his first novel ‘’The Macdermots of Ballycloran ‘’ while visiting Drumsna in his capacity as Postal Inspector in the early 1840s. The Trollope Society in Drumsna have held some very successful Summer Schools over the past number of years and this year in the bicentenary of his birth in 1815 are taking part in ‘’The Great Barset Balloonathon’’ where all over the World red balloons will be released. Here in Drumsna our balloons were released by none other than Anthony Trollope himself ( aka Mr Jim Gannon.) on Saturday last at 12 noon February 7th at the Anthony Trollope bridge near Ballycloran,Drumsna. This draws attention to how widely travelled Trollope was for that era. Those discovering the balloons are in for a pleasant surprise.
