So why not come along and give it a try. Check out www.carrickrugbyclub.ie or call 086 3867960 for more info.

Rose Planting Ceremony

2013 Edwina Returns38

The Leitrim Rose Edwina Guckian was welcomed back to her Native village of Drumsna by Councillor Sinead Guckian on Saturday last. A large crowd watched as Edwina planted a Rose bush on the village green . A marble plaque marks the spot for posterity. Thanks is extended to Father John Wall P.P. Annaduff who gave the Blessing,  to Fergal O’ Dowd,  Monumental Stone works for a great job at short notice , to Geraldine and Damien Monaghan Drumsna Garden Centre  for their advice and assistance , to Fred and Damien Gill  and Mollie the horse who brought Edwina along in great style and to everyone who came along to support Edwina’s homecoming. Edwina’s Rose Bush and commemorative plaque is in good company on the green with the Tree and plaque of President Mary Mc Aleese 2007, and our time capsule which was put down on Dec 31 1999 to be lifted by the villagers on December 31st 2099. More Photos

Well done to all concerned for a lovely ceremony.

Leitrim Sub Aqua Swim/Snorkel.

Our Leitrim Rose Edwina had a busy day on Saturday as she left the Rose planting to open the swim and snorkel day at the Quay side. Fr John Wall also had a busy day as he performed a Baptism at 1pm , the blessing of the Rose tree at 1.30pm and the Blessing of the swimmers at 2pm. all of which gathered momentum as the day went on . We then travelled to Jamestown for the great swim off in which up to 60 swimmers some as young as 6 years swam  from Jamestown weir around the loop and back to Drumsna ,the first swimmer in took just 42 minutes. Every Swimmer got a resounding round of applause as he or she reached the finish at Drumsna where a monster Bar-B-que took place . The Boxty and burgers were a welcome sight after the murky waters of the Shannon. Music was played by John O’ Dowd.

The evening’s entertainment was in Duignan’s lounge with Music by John Cronogue and Veronica. There were Spot prizes galore and a great night was had by all.

Wedding Bells.

Congratulations are extended to Julie Lombard and Jurgon Wolensky on their recent marriage. The beautiful bride accompanied by her father Mr. Tom Lombrd arrived on a specially decorated donkey cart driven by a local jarvey. The very moving ceremony took place in the couple’s specially decorated yard .The Bride was dressed in vintage silk  with a hand made head piece. Over 200 guests travelled from all over the world to attend. Neighbours from Annaduff glebe and surrounds came on foot. The food was supplied by Manfred’s Coothall and the beer and wine flowed long after day light. The entertainment was second to none with a disco by Smilie Sweeney and a traditional session in the barn with many singers, story tellers and other entertainment. The likes of this wedding has never been seen before in the glebe and everyone agreed that it was a wonderful experience.

We wish Julie and Jurgon many years of happiness together and hope that they will be in this area for a long time to come.
