Tidy Towns Results

Drumsna gained 5 points in this year’s Tidy Towns Competition. This is very satisfactory and brings us up to 257. If our village renewal plan continues to come to fruition we should be able to keep up this improvement with the help of our citizens . It is quite sad to note that just six people  attended last months meeting and this leaves the work on the faithful few almost impossible, If you feel you could spare one evening a to come to the monthly meeting during the Winter . (each second Tuesday ) and the work meetings during the Spring and Summer please do so. Our village is a lovely place to live in and we would like to keep it that way but we need help, so please come along to the next meeting which is Tuesday October 11th at 8pm in the Community Centre.

Congratulations

Heartiest congratulations to our neighbors in Dromod at the other end of the Parish on retaining their County Title as Leitrim’s tidiest village , They are not far from winning the Competition  and we commend their hard working committee on their achievement. Dromod looks lovely from which ever approach road you take into it.

Our neighbours on the other side in Jamestown also deserve much credit for the huge jump in marks which brought them an Endeavor Award this year and congratulations to them also.

Annals Makes Waves

Annals of Annaduff by Des Guckian, has been well received at home and abroad.  Many tributes have been received from all over Ireland, Britain U.S.A. and from as far away as Alice Springs in Australia. This publication has reawakened interest in our past, with many people visiting the Cemetery around the site of The Abbey of Annaduff, beside St Ann’s Church of Ireland. A number of questions have arisen. Shouldn’t the Nesbitt Vault desecrated about 36 years ago be properly sealed and secured? Shouldn’t the walls of the  old Medieval Church which surrounds the old Nesbitt Vault be rendered safer, as they are in danger of collapse? A heritage Council grant would be available for this work and the closing date is the 8th of October . A group of Historians associated with the British Navy is anxious to locate the exact location of the vault at St Ann’s in which are buried some of the Rowley family Mount Campbell, Drumsna who were famous Admirals in their fleet. They would pay for the erection of a monument. Is there anyone who can say for certain where that Rowley burial plot is? Please contact Des Guckian Derrywillow or phone 0719638397
