St. Patrick’s Day Mass.

The St Patrick’s Day 9.30 Mass in Drumsna was for deceased members of Drumsna branch C.C.E. and was celebrated by Fr. John Wall P.P. Thanks is extended to all those who took part and made the Mass traditionally special. To Imelda Gaffney for her beautiful singing , to the musicians Pierce Glancy , Gene Anderson and Edwina Guckian, to Reader Barry Guckian , to the offertory procession of Sean Quigley, Wine; Joanna Duignan, Bread ; Patricia Guckian, Shamrock ; Tara Curran ,Accordian ;  Emer Quigley, Tin whistle ; Caolinn Quigley, bodrain ; Maureen Quigley, St. Patrick ; Pauline Daly, Flute . The papal flags hung together with the Tricolour and also the Star Spangled banner to honour Fr. Wall’s birth rite .

St. Patrick’s day Parade .

The St. Patrick’s day Parade in Carrick-on-Shannon  was an exciting event with many  floats and entries from this locality including Drumsna Garden Centre’s Bride and groom from Ger’s Flowers for your special day , Edwina Guckian with her wonderful Sean Nos dancers, Des Guckian as Brian Boru and entourage of musicians and warriors, monks celebrating the millennium of the High King’s visit to Annaduff ;. Gills Garage Foxborough ; Drumsna and Mohill Comhaltas ; Austin Garvey’s fleet ; Elvira and Gerry Gilroy with the sub aqua club ; Well done to all of them for their input to the Parade ;The weather was  kind and young and old enjoyed the festivities .

Sympathy.

Sympathy is extended to Eileen Lavin, Mucklahaun on the death of her husband Mel after an illness bravely borne also to his sons Paul and Mel , daughter-in-law , Grandchildren , Sister, Brothers, nieces nephews ,  relatives and friends .

May his soul rest in peace .Amen .

Baby Girl.

Congratulations to Edel and Ollie Mc Keon, Kilmore on the birth of their first daughter Amy, who was born on St. Patrick’s day a little sister for Joe and Cathal and another grandchild for Carmel and Brendan Bourke Corry .

Forthcoming Events .

There are quite a number of events coming up in and around Drumsna over the coming Summer Months commencing with the Family and vintage day on Sunday June 13th 2010.This is the D.D.A.’s Annual day of Vintage display, fun , frolics and sport for all the family by kind permission in Mc Loughlin’s Paddock,Quay street .The night ends with music in Duignans Bar and the D.D.A. development Summer draw.

The Connaught Fleadh Ceol commences in Drumsna on Monday June 28th with a sesuin mor of traditional music song and dance in Mc Loughlin’s bar. This is a night not to be missed as musicians , singers and dancers warm up for the competitions in Mohill at the  following Fleadh weekend  .

On Tuesday  June 29th  local Artiste Fionnuala Maxwell will launch her new CD which will feature Leitrim Ballads. The launch takes place in The Community centre Drumsna and promises to be a wonderful event .

On Wednesday  June 30th a traditional Youth sesuin takes place also in the Community Centre Drumsna . The last youth evening was a rare treat of young and not so young people all involved in keeping their heritage of Irish traditional music alive . The talent of these young people and their teachers has to be applauded and we look forward to the evening .

The Fleadh then progresses to Mohill where the hardworking Drumsna and Mohill Branches of Comhaltas have done the groundwork for a successful Fleadh which will continue on in mohill over the weekend.

On Friday August 27th The first Anthony Trollope International Summer school commences in The community Centre and runs until Monday August 30th.    Further details of the launch of this event in April  at a later date.

On  Saturday August 28th The Annual Leitrim Sub aqua club Snorkel and fin swim day takes place commencing with a blessing at the quay at 2.30 from where the group of intrepid snorkelers will head to Jamestown to make the swim back to Drumsna for a barbeque and warm up . Bingo.

Bingo continues in the Community Centre, Drumsna on Thursday night at 8.30 pm. Last week’s winners of the big money were Margaret Mc Guire Drumsna ; Jimmy Bohan Kesh . The winners of the raffle, Melissa Mc Namee Jamestown ; Mary Tiernan Jamestown . Winners of  the free books ,Tess Gannon Drumsna ; Jimmy Bohan Kesh .

The Parish Mission.

A successful Parish Mission with St Patrick’s Missionaries, Gowel ended on Friday evening in Annaduff . There was a good attendance at all of the meetings and Masses including the early Mass at 8am in Drumsna

It must be said that our P.P. father John Wall  excelled himself with the celebration of so many Masses and ceremonies without help during the past week and we give thanks for him in a time when so many Parishes are left without any Parish priest .

Annaduff Thanks.

Annaduff brian Boru Milennium committee wishes to thank all who helped to make our entry into the Carrick and Mohill St. Patrick’s Day Parades such a great success. Our entry was even mentioned on the RTE TV coverage of parades that evening . We wish to thank all of the following ; Noel Mc Govern of Mc Loughlin Transport Services Boyle Rd., Carrick-on-Shannon ; Geraldine and Damien Monaghan Drumsna Garden Centre ; All who helped broadcast the event ; Ms Lou Vincent ; The staff, pupils and parents of Annaduff NS. ; Music teacher Padraig Sweeney ; The many talented musicians who joined us to entertain the crowd; Many people from the wider community who took time to join us on the day ;  the hardworking committee itself who worked well to remind us of the famous visit of Ard Ri Brian to our ancient Abbey so long ago.

Next event will be the launch  in May, of a history of the Parish of Annaduff and it’s surrounds.

 

 

 

Local Man on R.T.E.

Irish teacher Ciaran Reynolds from, Drumsna , gave the reading at the Saint Patrick’s Day Mass Celebration on R.T.E. 1. at the 11am Mass on Wednesday last . The Mass was broadcast from Clondalkin where Ciaran is a teacher , he is a son of Kathleen Reynolds and the late Micheal Reynolds , Mohill Cross Drumsna .

Floral PrideCompetition.

Drumsna has been entered in the Floral pride Competition and it is hoped that individuals and businesses alike will enter into the spirit of the Competition by making their space as attractive as possible . We have won this  prestigious competition before and with co-operation  there is no reason why we can not do so again . Geraldine and Damien Monaghan of Drumsna Garden Centre are available  to  give advice on any plating you may have questions about .We look forward to seeing Drumsna in full bloom by Judging day .
